The Festival of St Swithin, by William Holman Hunt

1866-75. Painted as a study for his Sister, Hunt reworked this into a complete oil spending a great deal of time on it, as a result it is a quite fine piece of Pre Raphaelite landscape painting and unusual as it depicts rain and poor weather. Clearly it is not only a realistic scene but also suggests the Great Flood of Noah and links in neatly with Millais’ early Pre Raphaelite masterpiece, "The Return of The Dove to The Ark." This painting is sadly not included in the currrent exhibition of Hunt’s wotk in Manchester.
Cuddeback shares hunting wisdom with junior high
